Ricky’s Ride was established back in 2007 in honor of Ricky Schmidt, a long time participant of the SSSRA. Ricky continues to participate in weekly programs and special events, and Special Olympics Bocce is his favorite activity. Ricky’s family and friends gathered together to organize a motorcycle run to raise money for SSSRA programs, special events, and our scholarship fund. Their efforts have raised over $215,000 for our families. Thank you to Bob Schmidt, Sean Fallon, Jamie Wallace, Gina Strait Crusius, and many others for your continued support.
Thank you to Old Plank Trail Community Bank (OPTCB) for their continued support of South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) and individuals with disabilities. OPTCB has sponsored our Family Banquet gifts for many years and have been long time supporters of our fundraiser Golf Outing. OPTCB recently sponsored activity backpacks filled with a variety of items to keep participants engaged during the pandemic.
SSSRA appreciates their ongoing support of sponsorship and/or attending our family events.
SSSRA is fortunate to have an ongoing relationship with the Palumbo Family. The Palumbo Family Charitable Foundation, formed just five years ago, selected SSSRA to benefit from their fundraising activities. The foundation has contributed proceeds from their first four Trivia Nights, totaling $30,500 to SSSRA’s scholarship fund.
Ed McGoldrick
SSSRA received a very generous donation of art and craft supplies, cookbooks, photo albums, and card making sets from Mr. Ed McGoldrick of Homewood. These supplies helped SSSRA to save several thousands of dollars in supplies for various programs and special events. The cookbooks will be handed out to participants during Chef’s Kitchen, the photo albums will be used for BINGO prizes, and the card making sets have helped to create a new program! Thank you to Linda Hentschel, one of SSSRA’s part-time staff, for sharing the work that the agency does with Mr. McGoldrick and inspiring him to donate such wonderful items. Thank you, Mr. McGoldrick!
