Position Title
Part-Time Inclusion Aide

Accountability
Park District/Parks & Recreation Department Supervisor and SSSRA Inclusion Manager

Job Purpose
To support and assist individuals with disabilities who are participating in their local park district or parks and recreation department programs.

Qualifications
Ability to work effectively with participants, parents, park district and recreation department staff, and other community contacts.

Must demonstrate dependability, promptness, and punctuality.

Ability to work closely with park district/parks and recreation department supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the inclusion of the participants in the park district/parks and recreation department program while also acting as part of the overall staff makeup of the program.

Act as an advocate for participants and emphasize the individual’s abilities and similarities while de-emphasizing the differences.

Assist staff in creating adaptations to existing programs in order to promote accessibility and accommodations for the individual with a disability.

Assist supervisor in developing a behavior management program, which promotes a positive result.

Assist the program supervisor in creating a structured and calm program setting.

Assist the Program Supervisor with identifying strategies or tactics for resolution of participant’s behaviors

To facilitate interaction between individuals with disabilities and his/her peers and encourage the participant to interact with others.

To include the individual with a disability in all activities of the program and provide any adaptations to the activity as needed.

To provide personal care when deemed appropriate by SSSRA and the park district/recreation department.

To keep information regarding the person with a disability confidential.

Communicate all incidents/accidents from the program to the proper park district/parks and recreation department representative.

Assist with obtaining equipment and supplies, program set up and clean up.

Attend weekly meetings before and after the program if necessary.

Initiate active involvement with participants in all program activities.

Willingness to participate fully and learn new skills.

Teach leisure skills to participants.

Complete any necessary documentation, and paperwork as assigned by supervisor.

Maintain constant communication and quality customer service towards parents, staff, participants, general public and agency contacts as a representative of the park district/parks and recreation department.

Attend required staff meetings, orientations, and training sessions.

Report any problems or concerns to the Program Supervisor or Program Coordinator.

Read, understand, and abide by all staff policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

Safety Duties
Be aware of and use proper safety precautions for staff, volunteers, and participants.

Essential Job Functions
Part-Time Inclusion Aides must, with or without reasonable accommodations be able to perform the following functions:

Predictable and reliable attendance.

Work collaboratively with supervisor and co-workers.

Understand and follow through on simple oral and written instructions related to the assignment.

Get to and from designated points at a program site quickly and without hesitation.

Communicate clearly with small or large groups of people, agency staff, member agencies and participant families.

Receive, review and respond to written material whether by mail, facsimile, or email.

Provide assistance when complex problems arise from program mishaps or interactions with agency employees/volunteers or participants.

Lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. for a distance of 300 ft.

Be able to independently operate wheelchairs, and vehicle tie downs for wheelchairs.

Be able to lift/transfer individuals with physical challenges, or physically restrain participants, up to 300 lbs. with assistance.
