Qualifications
Bachelor or Associate degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred. Knowledge or proven experience with children and /or adults with disabilities in community recreation or education field will be considered. Must have the ability and knowledge to plan, supervise, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs. Must possess leadership skills, and strong oral/written communications. The Site Supervisor will have experience or ability to lead and coordinate other seasonal staff and volunteers. The Site Supervisor must demonstrate dependability, promptness and punctuality. Be able to maintain a professional attitude when working with staff, parents and /or community contacts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise, plan, implement, lead and evaluate assigned programs.
Gather, pick-up, purchase and return camp equipment, supplies and food.
Schedule weekly meetings before and after camp.
Demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm and take initiative.
Actively lead activities and contributing ideas to promote an example to staff, volunteers and participants.
Supervise, train, evaluate and keep staff members/volunteers actively involved in the program activities.
Conduct daily safety inspections and weekly safety meetings. Address safety issues as they arise.
Provide supervision, assistance and care of individuals, including: instruction, proper behavior management, and assist with daily living skills.
Complete all necessary documentation, financial records and paperwork as assigned.
Maintain constant communication and quality customer service towards parents, staff, participants, general public and agency contacts as a representative of SSSRA.
Attend required staff meetings, orientations, and training sessions.
Report any problems or concerns to the Day Camp Coordinator.
Read, understand, enforce and abide by all SSSRA staff policies and procedures.
Seek to provide programs that reflect the agency mission statement.
Other duties as assigned.
Safety Duties
Be aware of and use proper safety precautions for staff, volunteers, and participants.
Actively support the SSSRA risk management program.
Essential Job Functions
Active participation in recreational activities for 6.5 hours per day.
Paperwork – staff and field trip evaluations, accident/incident reports, camper and staff documentation.
Site Supervisors must, with or without reasonable accommodations be able to perform the following functions:
Understand simple oral and written instructions related to the assignment and communicate the same to other seasonal staff/volunteers.
Get to and from designated points at a program site quickly and without hesitation.
Communicate clearly with small or large groups of people, emergency personnel, agency staff, affiliated agencies and participant families.
Receive, review and respond to written material whether by mail, facsimile or email.
Solve complex problems arising from program mishaps or interactions with agency employees/volunteers or clients.
Lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. for a distance of 300 ft.
Be able to independently operate wheelchairs, and vehicle tie downs for wheelchairs.
Be able to lift/transfer individuals with physical challenges, or physically restrain participants, up to 300 lbs with assistance.
